OUR HISTORY
The Toowoomba Defence Families Support Association (TDFSA) was first formed in 1989.
The committee at the time were allocated an old building that was in need of a great deal of repair, on the former RAAF Base located on Drayton Road in Toowoomba.
After much hard work by the committee and a grant from the Family Support Funding Program, a community house was established.
In September of 1990, Senator Margaret Reynolds was invited to officially open the house. In 1993 the sale of the RAAF Base was finalised and after negotiations, an agreement was reached that TDFSA could relocate and occupy an ex-army home and set up on vacant land at 25RQR, O’Quinn Street.
After many years of hard work, TDFSA has become what it is today.
In 2020 the committee and coordinator of the time had plans to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Toowoomba Defence Families, but unfortunately these plans were put on hold due to the Coronavirus Pandemic, that was occurring at the time. At the start of 2021, these celebrations were able to occur. Our logo was updated to what you see today and a time capsule has been buried within the Community House grounds with photos, history, drawings etc. from our defence families. The time capsule is due to be opened in 2050.
